Gillian Welch's lovely 2001 lament is as relevant now as ever. Released at the height of Napster, Welch saw the plug pulled on musicians' ability to make a living, and correctly predicted what's happening now - the music business is circling the drain.

Where do we go from here? That's the question I'm asking in "The Shopkeeper," the documentary about Mark Hallman that I'm making on this topic (at shopkeepermovie.com). "Everybody can make a record, but nobody can make a living. Now what?"
